CZU Lightning Fires – CCFT Cares

A Restful Place - by Inge Riis McDonald

Dear Cabrillo family,

As fires rage around our homes, neighborhoods, and community, the Cabrillo College Federation of Teachers stands with you. During this time of unprecedented uncertainty, it is more important than ever to remind one another that we are not alone. CCFT is here with and for you as a resource and support system. We are coordinating with the California Federation of Teachers (CFT) towards shared outreach and relief efforts. In collaboration with our parent union, essential items and additional resources are available for those in need as a result of the fires.

If you are impacted and need school supplies, personal necessities, or other non-monetary assistance, please send our CCFT team the following information so we can arrange this support: Items requested, the address to where the items should be delivered (for the local to distribute). If you have lost your home, it is completely uninhabitable, or you need assistance, please email avargas@cft.org. CFT can make a small direct donation of $250 to you. For this assistance, please send your CCFT team the following information: your first and last name, temporary address, and cell phone number. CFT will process that information and send a check.

For those who live near evacuation zones, there is an app called CodeRED Mobile Alert. You can download it like any other app, and it will ask you to put in different areas for which you will receive alerts. Here is information from Cal Fire on how to prepare for an evacuation. During such crises, it is more important than ever that we support one another to get through the difficult times.

If you are in need, please reach out.  We are in the process of setting up a donation fund through the Cabrillo Foundation.  To stay up-to-date on evacuation orders and fire location please visit the Cal Fire Website

Please refer to Matt Wetstein’s email from this morning about the one week delay in the semester for additional information.

In solidarity and safety,

Your CCFT Team
