CCEU Report

We did it, we are fully accredited! Thanks all around to every staff member and student representative of Cabrillo who worked to make this possible. What a wonderful feeling.

Right now the college is abuzz with lots of conversation. It is after all what we do best, and one of the things we highlighted during our recent accreditation site visit. But the interesting thing about the conversations we are having now is that they are results driven. What that means for some of you who may be new to education is we have a topic to focus on, maybe even obsess about, then we will ponder, some will pontificate (the verb, not the noun form). At some point Laurel will ask, in her sensitive, delightful, yet decisive way “what do you want to do with this?” There will be tears, gnashing of teeth, outbursts, and finally someone will emerge from the back and say, “you are the president, we just make recommendations.

 Ultimately, we are engaged in a college-wide process that requires us to recognize our current needs, use the conversation to understand our needs, collaborate as a college to address the needs, and then actually respond to the need in a methodical, sustainable way. The classified component of Cabrillo College is using this as an opportunity to become fully included in the functionality of Cabrillo. We are exploring sustainable staffing levels that will help meet the Student Success Act mandates, and several other local commitments. We have been discussing and exploring staffing priorities for years, but now we are actually responding to the discussions in a way that will eventually produce results. Go figure!
