CCEU Report

I am sure we are all breathing a sigh of relief knowing that the accreditation team is has left the campus and their report will be favorable. Now we must get to the business of carefully interpreting their recommendations and implementing them in a timely fashion. We have all taken the time to thank Rachel and Rory, collectively and individually, and given their responsibilities during the process I don’t know that “thank you” covers our truest emotional response for their service.

I also want to take a moment to thank every classified person who took the time to attend a meeting, ask a question or provide input. It was nice to look out and see staff in the CPC audience, at the open/exit forum and at the sessions in between. Sometimes we are taken for granted because our line of work includes everything you can think of as an “essential function,” so it is hard to determine what is really above and beyond. Sometimes we are only known by the things we leave behind because we serve in the invisible ranks of the college like our custodial and IT staff. You don’t always see them, but you always know when they have been around.

Other times we hide in plain sight like those in Assessment who drive the academic train for the students by making sure they are appropriately placed in classes that are on track for success.

Or the team from Enrollment Services that is responsible for every process we have that moves instruction forward, from enrolling students, to processing financial aid awards, to processing their grades, to making sure graduation requirements are in place, then doing it all over again every semester, every year.

The PRO team diligently works to measure what we do and find ways to do things better (remember that theme?). Then there are those in support programs who make sure students attend class knowing they have a group of people creating their path by clearing obstacles and cleaning up the debris. Who can say enough about the BSO team? If you are lucky enough to see them around campus during the daylight hours, a “hello” will suffice. If you see them at night, you may have to offer more than that.

Yes, it takes a village to raise a child, but an entire community to prepare our young for the world. To those of you in this community, please take some time to offer your voice. Find a committee that speaks to you, that should be easy because we talk a lot, and use it as a platform. Get involved, stay involved, and involve others.
