Participate in our Day of Action for Community Colleges
Wednesday, April 23, 12-2 PM, Cabrillo Quad

A Day of Action at Cabrillo will showcase the extraordinary talents of Cabrillo College Visual, Applied and Performing Arts faculty and students, mingling dance, theatre, instrumental and vocal music along with T-shirt silk screening (bring your own T-shirt!), speakers, pizza and drinks.

Among the performers: dance instructor Sharon Took-Zozaya’s choreographed piece on art under surveillance, Cheryl Anderson's prizewinning vocal ensemble Il Dulce Suono, Sue Brown’s violinists, a student jazz trio, improvisation, scenes from ‘As You Like It’ the Cabrillo Theatre Arts spring production, and original poetry and song written for the occasion.

Information will be available on what we can do to repeal the regulations: who to contact, what to sign, how to speak up, speak out. Students, faculty and community members will be on hand to answer questions, direct activity, and press the need to “Keep the Community in Community Colleges.”  The event is free and open to all.

flyerCabrillo In Dialogue: An Open Forum on Repeatability
Thursday, May 1, 6-8 PM, Horticulture Center, room 5005.

Repeatability regulations have eroded access for Cabrillo students—particularly students in the visual and performing arts and kinesiology as well as lifelong learners and those in areas with changing technology or curriculum. Imposed by the Chancellor’s office through the Board of Governors in a context of budget crisis and rationing education, the regulations may have made sense (although this is debatable, as many Californias believe education should be prioritized in the budget even in times of cutbacks).  In either case, the passage of Prop 30 means that if there was a time for rationing education, it is over. Please join students, faculty, and community members for a forum for dialogue on this important issue.

Campus experts Maya Bendotoff, Debora Bone, and Micheal Mangin will provide an overview of recent changes that have affected quality and access to public education, with an emphasis on how repeatability restrictions are affecting Cabrillo College students. Students, faculty and community members will share stories of how recent changes have affected them via a 3-minute microphone. Finally, we will discuss what we can do to resist these changes and reclaim full access to quality public education.

The event will be filmed and footage will be used to create an educational video. It is free and open to all. Refreshments will be served.  Please join us! Be inspired! Have your voice heard!

Contact Maya Bendotoff if you would like to share your experience with repeatability at the event or help in any way (831) 464-2238, ccft@ccftcabrillo.org
