Faculty Voice: March 2016: Negotiations Update

The contract negotiations are proceeding about as fast as a turtle on tranquilizers. We have spent many hours planning the schedule and agenda for negotiations without actually negotiating about substantive issues. As your new chief negotiator, I hope to push this brain-killing process along at a faster pace to spare my own mental health. What has become painfully clear is that, from the administration’s point of view, the budget should drive the mission of the college. CCFT’s view is the opposite, namely, that the mission should drive the budget, and how we prioritize our spending. I anticipate a long slog ahead.
