October 2014: Faculty Corner: Three Questions for Robin Mara

1. How goes your first semester as a full-timer?

Great! Cabrillo is a wonderful place to work. Students are engaged, work hard, and are great people. The staff and faculty at Cabrillo are very helpful and welcoming. Everyone is always friendly and willing to answer questions.

2. What challenges have you faced in making the transition from part-time to full-time teaching?

I did not realize how much time it would take to learn the smaller elements of being a full-time employee. Learning what resources are available and who to contact if I have questions takes much more time than I had expected. I also did not realize how much extra time it would take to set up my office and manage little tasks like getting my office computer to print on the local printer. In fact I am still working on resolving that one.
🙂

3. What are some goals you have for your teaching this year?

Great question. Be the best instructor possible. Be helpful and available to my students, my department colleagues, my division and be active in college governance. I also would like to carve out time to start developing a new course for my department.
